RJ has written everything from scripts and sketches to articles and op-ed’s…

QUick Question… Are all rich people evil?

With wealthy people shooting themselves into space during a pandemic, climate crisis, and historic economic downturn, it seems like there’s something about having a lot of money that makes people want to behave like supervillains. But what does science have to say about it? Quite a bit, actually. Here’s the smash hit episode of Quick Question… where RJ breaks down the neuroscience of why wealth and villainous behavior can go hand in hand.

Creative copywriting: the chattering nuns of st. beryl

You’ve no doubt heard of Christian nuns, but did you know the Dark Lord has nuns too? And instead of taking vows of silence, these gals vow never to shut up. To promote the screen adaptation of the famous novel Good Omens, RJ got to work with Amazon Prime, one of his writing heroes Neil Gaiman, and a talented team to give the fictional convent its own online presence chock full of Easter Eggs.

my abuser and i were in love. that was the problem.

The way we talk about intimate partner violence is fundamentally flawed, and it drastically interferes with our ability to adequately talk about and address the problem. Unfortunately, “IPV” is something RJ has experienced firsthand. But in this viral Medium piece, he seeks to use insights he’s gathered from that personal experience to help us truly understand the nature of the problem. Because that’s the only way we can hope to fix it.

Quick Question… WTF is an NFT?

NFT’s…cryptos…blockchain…digital pictures selling for tens of millions of dollars… how is any of this supposed to work? In the pilot episode of Quick Question… RJ researched and wrote (and also produced, narrated, and edited) a breakdown of all the foundational concepts of this new technology you need to know to better understand what’s going on.

Ditch the label: An intro to bisexuality

People think of bisexuality (and all other Bi+/MSpec identities) as being some kind of mixture of “gay and straight”. In reality, we are our own distinct identity and community, which can be confusing for young people and others who haven’t been exposed to any positive or affirmative representation. That’s why RJ partnered with the organization Ditch The Label to help guide young people and others on their journey of self discovery.

Op-ed: THe cost of youtube’s revshare split

YouTube has gotten in hot water with its creators for a variety of reasons. But RJ has been critiquing their creator policies from the get go, pointing out how many of their short sighted decisions in the early days caused extensive ripple effects that creators and audiences are still feeling today.

FLAMA: How to speak spanglish

You may think of Spanglish as just a haphazard mishmash of two languages, but it’s actually its own language with its own set of rules. Okay, not really… but in this viral sketch the RJ wrote (and directed, shot, starred in, and edited) for Univision FLAMA, he touches on a number of sharp observations that novices and experts alike will enjoy. It’s also accurate enough that it’s been taught in many university level language classes. No, seriously!

The omen Chronicles

After being chosen for YouTube’s NextUp class of 2013, RJ wrote a short film and series concept to expand the popular Harry Potter universe with a completely new story and characters. The end result (which he also starred in) was a viral smash hit with millions of views, multiple articles, and was part of YouTube’s first ever “4K Conference Showcase”.

Op-ed: Bullying 2.0

“Cyber bullying” is a term that’s been making headlines as both Millennials and Gen Z came of age. But as someone who’s been on the front lines of social media for ages (and also coming of age), RJ authored this op-ed for The Advocate combatting the idea that “cyber bullying” is a truly new phenomenon. The technology may be new, but the impulses have been around for ages.
